Amazon Temporarily Suspends Royal Mail Parcel Collect In-Home Return Pickup Service in the UK

According to foreign media reports, Amazon has recently rolled out a service adjustment for its UK market. Due to technical issues that have caused Royal Mail's Parcel Collect service to fail to complete customer pickups as required, the platform has temporarily removed this in-home pickup option from the pre-paid return label offerings for seller-fulfilled orders.

When customers initiate return requests, they will no longer be able to select Royal Mail Parcel Collect in-home pickup, while all other return methods in the UK region remain fully operational. Most consumers will not notice this adjustment, as Parcel Collect, an in-home pickup service launched by Royal Mail in 2020, still has limited penetration since its debut, and only users who are aware of the service will experience inconvenience.

Sellers do not need to take additional actions in response to this adjustment: return requests will automatically be matched with available channels based on sellers' pre-configured return rules, and sellers can view their existing configurations on the return settings page. This adjustment is a temporary measure, and Amazon will send notifications to users to reinstate the option once Royal Mail resolves the relevant technical issues.

Parcel Collect is one of the biggest overhauls to Royal Mail's daily postal services since the company installed its first post box in 1852. The service covers the entire UK, operates from Monday to Saturday each week, and can collect up to 5 parcels per pickup with a total weight not exceeding 20 kilograms. The current fee for return in-home pickup is ￡0.3. Just one week before this adjustment was announced, Amazon had just revealed that starting September 1, 2026, it will shorten the return window for 16 categories across five European sites, including the UK site, from 30 days to 14 days, with a transition period lasting until October 1.
