AWS Senior Vice President Dave Brown to Depart at End of July

According to foreign media reports, Amazon has officially disclosed that Dave Brown, the Senior Vice President of its cloud business unit (AWS), will depart at the end of July. AWS CEO Matt Garman stated in an internal memo that Brown's position will be filled by Dave Treadwell, a senior executive from Amazon's e-commerce division.

Garman noted in the memo that Brown was a key contributor to AWS's development, thanking him for his long-term contributions to technology R&D, business expansion, and team building.

Brown joined AWS in its early days and was a core member of the team that built the foundational EC2 service in the 2000s. EC2 was one of AWS's earliest service offerings, providing virtual slices of physical servers billed by the second for enterprises to run applications and websites. In recent years, Brown's responsibilities expanded to cover AWS computing and machine learning services, including products like Bedrock and SageMaker. He was also one of the 28 members of the 'S-Team' reporting directly to Amazon CEO Andy Jassy, which meets regularly to make key business decisions.

In his personal internal memo, Brown stated that the present moment is an opportune time for him to start a new chapter in his career, and he is confident the business units he oversaw will continue to thrive under Treadwell's leadership. Brown praised Treadwell as an excellent manager with deep technical expertise, a strong customer-centric focus, and a great passion for building high-performing teams.

Brown's departure comes as AWS is benefiting from strong demand for its artificial intelligence services, with the division's revenue growing 28% year-over-year in the first quarter of 2026. Cloud competitors Microsoft and Google are also seeing positive performance in related businesses, driven by increased AI-related spending.
