Shopee Thailand Local Stores Face Third Commission Hike This Year, Small Sellers Eligible for Fee Discounts
Ebrun Exclusive, July 12: Shopee Thailand local stores are about to undergo their third commission adjustment this year.
Recently, Shopee issued an official announcement stating that starting from August 4, 2026, local time, the platform will adjust the sales fee rates for Mall sellers and non-Mall sellers, with variations depending on product categories and seller types. The increases range from zero to a maximum of approximately 3.21 percentage points.
Looking at specific categories, for regular sellers, the fee rate for the Fashion & Accessories category will be raised from 11.24% to 13.38%, and the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) category will increase from 13.91% to 16.05%. The largest increase occurs in the Surveillance Cameras category for PRIME sellers, with a hike of 3.21 percentage points.
Meanwhile, sales fee rates for major appliances like refrigerators and air conditioners, as well as digital products like mobile phones and tablets, remain unchanged.
For Mall sellers, the increase for the vast majority of categories is about 2.14 percentage points, with the FMCG and Home & Living categories both rising from 17.12% to 19.26%.
Notably, in this round of increases, the platform has also established a buffer mechanism for small sellers.
Eligible stores—those with total sales not exceeding 10,000 Thai Baht in the 30 days prior to the monthly settlement cycle—can enjoy a sales fee discount ranging from 0.5% to 1.5%. This differentiated arrangement shows that while the platform is raising overall fee rates, it is attempting to mitigate the impact on the operating costs of micro and small sellers.
Many sellers have noted that, combined with the policy adjustments in April and June of this year, Thailand local stores have already undergone three commission adjustments.
Some sellers have calculated that the cumulative fee rate adjustment for local stores on this site since the beginning of the year is close to 9%. After factoring in various platform expenses, the total deduction rate could reach around 30%. The continuously rising channel costs are becoming a common concern among the seller community.
However, the fee rate hikes are not an isolated action by Shopee alone. The pace of fee adjustments among Southeast Asian e-commerce platforms is becoming increasingly frequent.
Just recently, on July 5, TikTok Shop Thailand local stores also underwent a round of fee standard adjustments, with some categories rising to a maximum of 13.91%, representing an increase of over 2 percentage points. Under the dual pressures of intensifying competition and the pursuit of profitability, fee adjustments by major platforms targeting merchants are becoming a normalized trend.
