Shopify's Major Update! Cross-border Sellers Can Now Use AI Agents to Manage Their Independent Store Operations

[Ebrun Original] Recently, Shopify announced the launch of its "AI Toolkit" for merchants and developers, enabling mainstream AI tools—including Claude Code, Cursor, Gemini CLI, Visual Studio Code, and Codex—to integrate into the Shopify ecosystem via plugins, Agent Skills, or MCP (Model Context Protocol).

Once integrated, these AI tools can directly access Shopify's official documentation, API schemas, and code validation capabilities. Merchants can use natural language commands to have AI generate GraphQL queries, write Liquid templates, create application components, or directly operate their stores—such as updating product information, adjusting inventory, and modifying configurations.

In other words, Shopify has opened up official permissions, allowing merchants to potentially use their preferred external AI agents to take over all aspects of store management.

For example, as shown in the official demo video, a simple one-sentence command can optimize SEO for all products in the store. The AI quickly completes optimizations for titles, descriptions, and related information.

After SEO optimization, the AI can also set product discounts directly, eliminating the need for operators to manually configure settings in the backend.

Previously, merchants had to rely on paid Shopify plugins, outsourcing, or dedicated operational staff to accomplish these tasks. With AI agents integrated into Shopify, merchants can now complete these tasks simply by issuing commands in the interface or integrating relevant Skills, significantly improving both efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Shopify's AI Agent may become the mainstream operational method for independent store merchants in the next era.
