ChatGPT Ad Pricing Revealed: CPM at $60, Roughly Three Times Meta's Rate

According to The Information, ChatGPT has internally set its advertising pricing, with a cost per mille (CPM) of approximately $60, about three times the price of similar products on mainstream digital advertising platforms like Meta. It is reported that Meta's average ad pricing typically falls within the $15–$20 range.

Currently, there is widespread dissatisfaction on X regarding ChatGPT's pricing: the platform's advertising market has yet to be validated, yet it is already charging rates equivalent to top-tier sports event ads. Moreover, while the prices are high, there are reports that ChatGPT currently cannot provide advertisers with the same granularity of ad data support as Google or Meta, nor can it disclose complete conversion or attribution data, offering only basic metrics such as ad impressions or clicks.

Previously, Sam Altman also stated that user data and conversation content within ChatGPT will be strictly protected and will not be sold or shared with advertisers. Users have full control over their own data, can disable personalized ad settings, and can clear data used for ad targeting at any time.

Some market analysts suggest that this may be a screening mechanism: by setting a high price threshold, ChatGPT aims to prioritize serving top brands with payment capabilities, validate the advertising model and commercial pathway within a limited scope, and then decide on further commercialization steps based on the outcomes.
