Amazon Announces 2026 FBA Fee Adjustments for U.S. Marketplace: Moderate Increases, Standard-Size Fulfillment Fees Rise Across the Board

Ebrun Exclusive: On January 4th, Amazon announced the details of its FBA logistics fee adjustments for the U.S. marketplace, effective in 2026.

Overall, the average FBA fee per item will increase by only $0.08, a rise of less than 0.5% of the average selling price, indicating a moderate adjustment. Amazon stated that this change follows two years of fee adjustments significantly below the inflation rate and is also much lower than the annual 3.9% to 5.9% fee increases by major U.S. carriers. The company has committed that no new FBA fee types will be introduced in 2026. The adjustments will take effect on January 15, 2026. Specific changes include: 1. Standard-size item fulfillment fees will generally increase. For standard-size items priced between $10 and $50: Small standard-size item fulfillment fees will rise by an average of $0.25 per item, while large standard-size item fees will increase by an average of $0.05 per item. For standard-size items priced below $10: Small standard-size item fulfillment fees will increase by an average of $0.12 per item. Fees for large standard-size items will remain unchanged. Compared to items priced at $10 or above, items below $10 will receive an average discount of $0.86 per item. For standard-size items priced above $50: Small standard-size item fulfillment fees will rise by an average of $0.51 per item, and large standard-size item fees will increase by an average of $0.31 per item. 2. Inbound placement service fees have been segmented more precisely by weight range to better reflect handling costs. When using the minimal split option, standard-size item inbound placement service fees will increase by an average of $0.05 per item. Additionally, Amazon will update large standard-size items weighing 3 to 20 pounds to include five new shipping weight segments. For shipments that are not delivered, delayed (discarded), or sent to the wrong location, Amazon will charge a uniform inbound defect processing fee of $0.60 per item. Previously, these shipments incurred both inbound placement service fees and inbound defect processing fees. 3. To ensure efficient use of fulfillment center space and improve overall inventory turnover, FBA will update aging inventory and removal fees. The minimum aging inventory fee for items stored for 12 to 15 months will increase by $0.15 per item per month, rising to $0.30 per item per month. This fee will continue to be charged based on the higher of the updated $0.30 per item or $6.90 per cubic foot. Items stored for over 15 months will incur an aging inventory fee of $0.35 per item per month or $7.90 per cubic foot, whichever is higher. Amazon is adding this new aging inventory fee segment to better align with the cost of retaining these items. Removal and disposal fees for standard-size aging items weighing less than 0.5 pounds will be reduced by $0.20 per item. This change aims to encourage sellers to promptly remove excess inventory. 4. The fee structure for large oversized and special oversized items has also been updated. Amazon will split the current large oversized item segment into two size categories: "small oversized items" and "large oversized items," to better reflect that shipping costs for small oversized items are lower than for large oversized items. Additionally, oversized items that cannot be shipped in their own packaging will incur a packaging fee. For small oversized items, fulfillment fees will decrease by an average of $2.06 per item, while for large oversized items, fees will decrease by an average of $0.26 per item. Most oversized items already shipped in their own packaging will see a net fee reduction. Small and large oversized items that do not meet the requirements for shipping in their own packaging will be charged an average packaging fee of $2.07 per item. Low inventory level fees and inbound placement service fees will apply to small and large oversized items. Large oversized items using the minimal split option will see an average increase of $0.27 per item, while Amazon's optimized shipment split option will remain free of charge. Special oversized item fees will decrease by an average of $2.08 per item. Fees for most special oversized item segments will be reduced. Items with irregular dimensions (special oversized segment) will see fee increases to cover additional handling costs. 5. Storage and transportation fees for Amazon Warehousing and Distribution (AWD) services in the U.S. West will increase, while discounts for smart storage and Amazon Managed Services will continue. Currently, storage fees are $0.57 per cubic foot per month in the West and $0.48 per cubic foot per month in the East and South. In 2026, AWD transportation fees will increase to $1.40 per cubic foot to support ongoing service improvements. For the AWD smart storage pricing tier, Amazon will continue to offer a 10% discount on AWD storage fees. Additionally, for Amazon Managed Services, Amazon will continue to provide a 20% discount on AWD storage fees and a 10% discount on AWD transportation fees. 6. Multi-Channel Fulfillment (MCF) fulfillment fees will increase by an average of $0.30 per item. Fees for orders containing one or two items will rise, while fees for orders with three or more items in the small standard-size and large standard-size categories will remain unchanged. Furthermore, FBA will introduce volume-based discounted pricing for eligible MCF sellers, offering up to a 15% discount on MCF fulfillment fees and up to $1 in FBA fee credits per MCF item, with the promotion lasting up to one year.
