AliExpress launches "Oversized Item" Express to Korea; Large furniture and appliances can be delivered in as fast as seven days

[Ebrun Original] On February 1, AliExpress and Cainiao announced that they will continue to strengthen their presence in the Korean market by launching the "Oversized Item" Express. Large furniture and household appliances can be delivered to Korean consumers within 7 days.

It is reported that the Oversized Item Express can provide shipping services for items weighing up to 60kg, including general cargo and electrical goods. As long as merchants ship the goods to AliExpress Cainiao's Shandong Preferred Warehouse in advance, they can use this service route.

Oversized items such as furniture and household appliances have long encountered challenges in cross-border shipping. Previously, merchants often needed to contact logistics companies themselves and stock up at local overseas warehouses in advance, incurring high costs and inventory risks. Ebrun has learned that products entering Korean local warehouses may face issues such as the inability to sell (e.g. due to returns or failure to pass Korean KC certification), or overstocking, leading to high costs for return shipping. As a result, many merchants can only choose to sell at a loss through local channels to clear their inventory. In addition, transportation efficiency is relatively low, typically taking 10-15 days to reach the hands of consumers.

The pursuit of logistics efficiency is inscribed in the genes of Korean consumers. Ebrun's research shows that next-day delivery has become a general consensus for online shopping in the Seoul metropolitan area. However, Korean consumers are more lenient towards cross-border e-commerce compared to local e-commerce platforms, with a general psychological expectation of delivery within 10 days. The launch of the Overized Item Express is another move following the introduction of the "Five-Day Delivery" service by AliExpress in the Korean market last year, reaffirming AliExpress's commitment to the Korean market.

The Oversized Item Express launched by AliExpress and Cainiao optimizes transportation speed and costs through warehouse direct shipping, dedicated customs clearance, and other methods. After placing an order, Korean consumers can receive their purchases in as fast as 7 days.

Yong Yang, head of AliExpress's Korean market, previously indicated to Ebrun that AliExpress's advantage categories in Korea mainly include women's clothing, 3C digital products, small home appliances, automotive and motorcycle accessories, and home accessories. Yang also revealed that the launch of the Oversized Item shipping service will bring new opportunities for merchants to introduce the next wave of new product categories. According to related data on the AliExpress platform, more and more Korean consumers are favoring items such as sofas, gaming chairs, massage chairs, mattresses, and bedding.

It is reported that the Oversized Item Express will also be extended to more countries and regions in the future.
